I have a weird question...

I want to buy Host Gator hosting, and switch over to Mybb. However I noticed that if I buy advanced hosting its through host gator, and the only way to transfer my data base is to buy advanced hosting.

So here is my question, and problem. If I buy advanced hosting through you guys, I will have to continue to purchase through you guys every year my advanced hosting expires, but I don't want to. I want to COMPLETELY transfer to host gator 100%, Not have to continue to come to freeforums.org to re-purchase my advanced hosting every year.

Is this possible? Or should I just completely restart my forum?

You've misunderstood, you don't come back to freeforums to renew Advanced Hosting each year, once you've transferred your contract is with Hostgator & you renew with them.

Why you would want to then use MyBB over phpBB is beyond me however each to their own.

And I want to make the switch, because when it comes to things like installing mods or plugins, Mybb is much easier to use, and I have tried installing mods on Phpbb before, and it is much to hard to get a grasp on. Maybe sometime in the future Phpbb will come up with an easier way to do things like this.

So I guess my next question is, would it be possible to switch my database over if I do get Mybb, or can the database only be switched over to Phpbb?

Yep, understand where you are coming from. When phpBB bring in their hook system, think it's due on 3.1, then it'll be easier to install mods.

freeforums will only switch over as a phpBB board, once this is done you'll need to use MyBB's merge scripts:-
