Goto the advanced ACP. On the general tab scroll down & click "User registration settings". The very first setting, called "Account activation:" is what you want. Set it to "disable". & there you have it, no more registrations.
In order to do this please go onto your Forum and click on the ACP(Administration Control Panel), when your there click on, "Advanced Admin Panel" Next, click on "User Registration Settings" on the left hand side panel. From there the first option is, "Account Activation" click on the option "Disable" and then click on "Submit"
Hope this helped you!
-Sincerely, ComputerKhaos

Re: HOW TO CLOSE NEW MEMBERSHIP
Hi there,
There are a few ways you could limit registration. If you wanted to stop it all together, then sign into the Advanced admin Panel and go to the "General" tab. From there, click "User Registration Settings" and you will now see "Account Activation." If you wish to stop all registration click "Disable". If you wish to approve new registration (thus allowing people to register but only join at your discretion, click "By Admin."
