Post Admins can't log on (or log off)
We have two admins on the site. For the past few weeks, neither of us can get logged in. I enter my user name / pw and it just loops back to the logon page. On one of my home computers, it won't let me log off. I get

Quote:
You were not logged out, as the request did not match your session. Please contact the board administrator if you continue to experience problems.

I can see all the member threads like I am logged in, but it loops back when I try to access the ACP just like when I try to log on from another computer. When I try to post (from the machine that stays logged in) I get

Quote:
The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.

Looks like my regular users are fine, its just us two admins. I've tried using different browsers, PC's and ISP's. I'm in the US and using Comcast primarily.

Good day,

So you have tried multiple computers, and none of them solve this issue?

Correct. multiple computers.

Now a change of events. The one computer that was perma logged in is now logged out and behaving like all the others with just returning to the logon prompt after a logon attempt.

Hello,

Were the different PCs all on the same network/ISP?

Have you tried clearing the cookies on your browser?

Hello,
Are you still having this problem? If so, let's see if the style you are using may have something to do with the issue.

1) Head over to the Recovery Console (http://rc.freeforums.org) and log in.
- Your username is your forum name. (example.freeforums.org = example)
- Your password was e-mailed to you upon creation of your forum. If you have forgotten it, use the "Forgot Password" link on the RC login page and a new one will be sent to the founder e-mail address.
2) Choose the "Root Admin" option to log into the ACP of your forum,
3) Click the "General" tab at the top and then "Forum Appearance" in the middle,
4) Find and set the "Prosilver" style as the default style for the forum and now try logging in normally again.
- It's worth clearing your temporary internet files again before trying to log in.

I am having the same problem with one my forums...

http://familymemories.freeforums.org/

I am sure I have the right password, but I am unable to access the administration control panel.

Instead I get this message:

To administer the board you must re-authenticate yourself.

You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts.

It's now been three days. How do I correct this?

Post Re: Admins can't log on (or log off)
Thank you for this information, I tried it, but it says that it can't find a forum with that name:

http://familymemories.freeforums.org

But I'm able to post information and upload pictures, I just can't get on to the Administration Control Panel. I get this message...

You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below.

I've tried every password I've ever used and I still get this message. I tried the recovery page again and used my old email address, which unfortunately no longer exists... I'm afraid I forgot to change it here. The recovery page says it's
"A new password has been mailed to you at astrapeace@gmail.com", how do I get it to send it to my new email address instead (eponabri@riseup.net or eponabri@gmail.com)?

Thanks for any help you can give me...

Hello,

If you have changed emails, and want your forum information sent to a new email, you will have to change the email in the Recovery Console. Hopefully you have saved the RC login information on your computer, as the login information would have been sent to the email used to create the forum.

Hello,
If you do not know the password for the Recovery Console and cannot log in because you don't have access to the e-mail linked with it, please create a ticket explaining this at (http://help.freeforums.org) and an agent will respond as soon as possible and will do their best to help you out. They may not be able to change it for you, but let them know what you would like it to be and they'll let you know what they can do.

Post Re: Admins can't log on (or log off)
I am getting so frustrated. I have been fighting this problem since March and if I can't get into my forum soon, it's going to be deleted. I don't want to lose the information and photos that are posted on this forum.

I filed a help ticked at the link below and the only response I got was this...

"Have you tried clearing your cookies, or even trying another browser? You wouldn't be able to change that E-Mail Address unless you were to get into the ACP and change the Founder E-Mail Address."

Well, duh!!! That's my problem to begin with! Sorry to be so disrespectful, but really!! Yes, I have tried clearing cookies. I have another forum and have no trouble getting into that one, so it's not the browser or clearing my cache.

Can't someone please help me to access my account? After clearing the cookies from my cache I now can't even log in!!!

I love freeforums, but this is getting really old!!!

Hello Cindi,
I'm sorry you are still having this issue. As you have created a ticket already please respond to it again, linking them to this topic and they'll understand more about the situation.
If would be helpful if you provide the browser, ISP and country you are accessing your forum from and if it is on a home or work/public network.

Thank you for the response...

I'm using Google Chrome, through msn as my ISP and I'm in the US.

I even tried recreating an email account on gmail with the old address I had before, which worked and tried requesting a new password from the Recovery Console, which said that the password was being sent to that address, but it hasn't come through, so I'm thinking that is not going to work.

Hello,
The recovery password would only be sent to the founder e-mail address and the only way to change that is via the recovery console.
As you have created a ticket already it's best to refer to any responses you get there from now on as if any administration action is needed on our end (which I think is possible) you'd be referred to there anyway.

Post Re: Admins can't log on (or log off)
I AM the founder of the forum. You are telling me the same thing that the guy at the help desk is telling me, that I already know... that I can't change the email until or unless I can log on.

THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!

That email account was taken over by a hacker who was stalking me. I tried to recreate the email account with that address and apparently he still has access to that account and immediately cancelled it. Of course, now I am worried that the password was sent and the hacker now as access to my forum and I don't.

There has to be a better way to handle this than what I'm seeing here. At least when my google account was hacked, Google worked with me to help me get it back. I am not seeing anyone here who is willing to help me get back into my forum, and if I don't get in soon, two years of posts are going to be deleted.

There HAS to be away for the support staff to get into my forum, check it out to see that this is me, and that I am the founder and help me to get back into my forum!!

I am getting so frustrated that I am getting so little help from either this site or the help desk.

As it is now, if I can't get any help, my forum is going to be deleted. Yes, I have saved the information and photos, but that's not the point. I trusted freeforums and have bragged about how great the support is whenever there is a problem. But I'm not getting that support now.

So, basically, it seems like I am just **** out of luck.

I am now worried that the same thing is going to happen with my other forum.

Hello Cindi,
I'm sorry but we cannot do anything here at the support forum. We are just volunteers sat thousands of miles away from the office. This is why I have directed you to create a ticket and explain this in your ticket because an agent, somebody at the office with administrative powers, will be able to look into it further than we physically can.

I'm sorry, I'd love to just be able to get this sorted for you myself, but unfortunately I can't so must direct you to your ticket.

It just has been, just now... One of my members was able to log on and send me a private message. Very weird thing, it came to my new email address but was using the old address, although google tells that the old address no longer exists. She was able to find my log in name and I was finally able to match it up with the right password, which I had tried about a dozen times before and didn't work, but this time it did.

So, now I'm able to log in and I've changed my email address and password, so hopefully this won't happen again.
