Post 'virus' threat warning on forum?
Hi, on a couple of occasions when I visited my forum I have had my virus scanner pop up and block a website from opening.

Right now I am assuming that it is possible that someone has hacked into the ads that are displayed as it doesn't happen all the time.

Screen shot here of the threat warning:

Any ideas/suggestions?

I think Ill just hijack this thread... The other one hasnt seen any activity in a while. I havent had any trouble myself (no ads for staff MOD), but a member sent me a pm hed been having trouble:

Quote:
I love this site it is still small and has a great sense of community however in the last day or so when I have attempted to access the site on at least 2 occasions I have had my AVG dissallow the page due to threats (blackhole phising? and Rogue Security Scanner) I'm no computer expert but I thought it should be brought to your attention.

Dont know more about it... Just figured I might post.

Hello,
I'll escalate this topic for an administrator to see. Hopefully we should be able to investigate this offending advert and if neccesary remove it from the system.

With you as well, in the past week I've had the rogue Security Scanner one on both a freeforums forum AND this very support forum!

Ideally freeforums asks for screen shots of the rogue adverts however I personally don't hang about & shut down the browser & run (proper) security scans straight away.

If you do have time to do screenshots as you have with the blocking above this can really help the support staff & admins to address the issue. The URL looks truncated in the screeny so if you ever have the chance to give the full URL this would help even more.

I have also had the Rogue Security Scanner here on the support forum but AVG blocked it.

I also am getting maleware hits from my free forums site, my avast is stopping it so far, but one lady said this it might be helpful.

Can you please let freeforums.org know that the "ilivid ad" is trying to
download a trojan.gen virus. They need to block them from advertising.
Also, anyone that comes here that doesn't have antivirus, will end up
getting it. My Norton keeps blocking it from automatically downloading.

Is there a site wide message we can send to our members to let them know to beware, like a email alert kind of thing.
Because once they are on the site it's too late.

Thanks Sam

Hello jacksgirl,
Yes, because Ad-Removal will remove the banner ads which are at question here.

ConkersBadFurDayN64, the "trap" that you are implying of is non-existent. The admins have to work along side the tech team and prioritize each issue infront or behind another - they cannot work on more than one thing at the same time.
Jackal has acknowledged this topic and has said that they are looking into it, so we'll post any updates when there are some.

I apologize for the inconvenience but ask for your patience and understanding whilst they work on fixing this problem. Thank you.

Hello lhug,
I understand your frustration because it has taken a while to be sorted, but as Jackal has acknowledged the issue we have to leave it down to the admins to sort now. When updates are ready they will be provided.

I apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.
