It looks like you are achieving a high level of social connection between forum users, and for that I applaud your efforts.

However, I must ask, how will this new profile system affect the custom profile fields? Will there be advanced permission settings for them as well? Will administrators be able to create fields viewable to everyone, but only editable by moderators or admin?

How far does the customization of the profile go?

Will some fields have the ability to be disabled by admin, if they are not needed for a particular board?

Sorry for all the questions, but the prospect of your new system is exciting and I have lots of potential ideas already brewing for my own board.

OK.. Here's a question that I doubt will be a yes but I thought I would ask/suggest it anyway..

Is there ANY way you may release this feature to phpbb.com's database? You do not have to offer support for the feature, OR you could offer support only to "site supporters" (Or in other words extra money to help with the costs of running this site)

This would also get the freeforums some added exposure to the phpbb community for those wanting to try out a phpbb forum but do not have the funds to afford adv hosting.

This could be a great marketing strategy.

I mean Money + exposure just for releasing the mod to the public for anyone to use. I would also suggest the same with the iportal.

(BTW, I can PROMISE this would be a hit within the phpbb community)

I think this is the best idea to date. People will love this. Members of the forums will love it more than anything. It doesnt matter what us admins think its about making your members happy. I think you have scored 10 out of 10.

We are currently working on this week's new version release. Once this is done we will plan and go over feedback for future features.

Will admin have the ability to search all the funtions of this profile, or will the member have total control of this feture?

Just asking, as as an admin I would like to see what, where and when my members are doing and putting in their profile.

I agree with what stormtrooper said, but one thing I'd like to ad, is the ability to have members real name a required feature on my forum.

Personally, I love the look of the new profile. Usually, when I see a new member, the first thing I do is look at their profile. But the profile we have now, is really lacking.

Here's the answers to most questions:

Q) How does this affect custom profile mod?
A) Admins will still be permitted to add custom profile fields. It will be similar to the current mod for v3.

Q) How much can a user customize it?
A) Customization from the user's side couldn't get better. They have complete control over what is on their profile, and who sees it.

A) Currently no, we may look into something like this for the future.

A) This is a new profile feature/system and not a mod. This will replace the current profiles. Maintaining two separate profile designs would be counterintuitive. We are designing this profile system with both research and feedback from admins and users so it will be well accepted.

A) That is correct

A) This is a network only feature at the moment

These have been launched on our 2.0.3 system. Please give us some feedback in the coming weeks we will be switching to only these new profiles.

not sure if it is just me or not, but the new profile is doing funky things to my custom profile fields. (sorry for the technical terms)

also I tested it, the layout is horrible! the avatar goes off the boundaries of the page, making it look unprofessional and the bubbly icons that don't match the themes at all. the old profiles are much more versitile and theme-centric

As for the quest for the perfect profile...

whats wrong with the old one? friends list, avatar, all contact info, and stats.

besides little tag boards like in IPB I doubt it could get much "better"

remember aesthetics and functionality must be balanced. Adding tons of features to the page but making it confusing is not productive. As well as also making users unconfortable around a new system.

This is a new profile system, not a mod. Having said that, all the issues you mentioned (as well as others) will be fixed before it replaces the current profiles.

I think it should stay in the mod control panel. I mean some don't like styles like this and we should give them some variety.

Would there be any way to edit the profiles when they are implemented, such as remove the activity stats or move the blocks around? I personally think it feels too much like a facebook or myspace, and my users dislike those sites.

Here's some things that I think should be added:

•Admins should be able to send shouts to multiple users other

•Being able to be notified when you receive a new shout

•Being able to change the large text that says something like "A 13 year old Male who joined Make Mii Famous Forums on October 14th, 2008"
