 Re: [SUGGESTION] Forum Badges/Medals
As standard, you can make badges and use them as a rank pic for a member, and also give them a "title" which is the rank pic's name. I've been doing that on my forum for ages now; I have badges of merit for members who do good things, and shields, etc. People like it.

 Re: [SUGGESTION] Forum Badges/Medals
You can already have rank badges.... Head over to you're ACP -> Users and Groups -> Users (tab to the left) -> Manage Ranks Here you can create ranks either as "Special" Ranks, or by post count. Special ranks are the ranks you set for groups, like the admin group you can have a rank that says "Administrator", etc...Ranks and / or medals based on post count can be set as well. Just switch over the "Set as special rank" to no. Give the rank a name, upload and image if you want, and set a post number. Once a user reaches said post(s), they will be given that rank and / or medal. Easier description on how to user post based ranks: First head over to you're ACP -> Users and Groups -> Users (tab to the left) -> Manage Ranks -> Click 'Add new rank' -> Now here you can edit the title to display above the rank image, add a rank image, change 'Set as special rank' to NO (For ranks based on post count), and Change minimum post (At what number of posts do you want a user to receive this rank. Pictures: Creating the rank: Created rank plus a few other examples:

 Re: [SUGGESTION] Forum Badges/Medals
Airsoftking,
I think what he was trying to get to was an actual addition of a Badge/Award section of the forums. Where you can set awards or badges up and actually have a separate tab on a user profile that shows ALL Badges and Awards earned. This way members could take a bit more pride in their forum profiles. Yes I know that you can do it as above, but why not do it the right way rather then "jerry rig" something to work?

 Re: [SUGGESTION] Forum Badges/Medals
I think I know what this memeber is talking about... not the default rank system that is currently in place but a rank/badge awards SHOWCASE area that will allow the admins to hand out MULTIPLE awards to members and have them persistent....
I am currently forced to use the default rank area to award badges on a "temp" status as a stopgap until I can find a better solution. I know it is out there. I have seen forums that I have been a part of in the past (not in an admin function) using awards showcases (vboard and phpbb).
Maybe I just havent found the function here yet? But I have spent a great deal of time looking and trying to figure out a solution to this. There are Mods in phpbb.org, although they are no longer supported and I am unsure if they are viable.
from what I have read the tech team is on a 2 week dev cycle, is this not something worthy of effort or should I begin looking for another solution?

 Re: [SUGGESTION] Forum Badges/Medals
I would have to say there is a HIGH likelyhood that this has been ignored by the "dev" team the OP was in October of last year and was kind enough to provide a direct link to the Mod @ phpbb.org...... I am sorry to say this is a dead horse. unless someone in "charge" cares to respond to prove me wrong.

 Re: [SUGGESTION] Forum Badges/Medals
Hello, Just because a member of staff hasn't responded doesn't mean this has been ignored. The admins more than anyone else read this forum post by post - they're always looking to improve our services to you. I don't know whether the 2 week development cycle is still being used - it may well be, but I think it's likely that things we don't know about are included in these a lot. As for this particular feature being installed, a "Medals System" MOD is out there, I use it over at www.offtopicrave.com, but whether it'll ever be added to the system I don't know, because it's an outdated MOD and I was lucky to see it work on the latest version of phpBB.

Q. What do the stars in my rank mean? A. For every six months we are part of the support team, we get a new star. Q. You've made a member an admin/mod but their username color won't change. A. Re: [SUGGESTION] Forum Badges/Medals
I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Looking from the outside in, silence to a question generally gives people a feeling of apathy. I understand that you guys and gals likely get a ton of questions, some of which are redundant, but even a bot response letting people know what you just told me, would at least keep some of members frustrations down to a low roar dont you think? I dont know, just my 2 cents...... So what is the threshold for a Mod request to get pushed to the next level (Ie... how many people need to request a mod before it will be considered for addition?) Thanks again for taking the time to respond....

 Re: [SUGGESTION] Forum Badges/Medals
Hello tufforcop, I completely understand your view, which is why I try to reply when there is something to add.
The percentage of customers we see sign up and post here at the support forum is very low. (Maybe below 1%) We host almost a million forums - many of them active, and only see a handful of members come here for support. Even though it doesn't neccesarily take a thousand different people saying "yes I like this" for a MOD to be implemented (it could just take the one) it is always a sure sign the feature would be widely used if lots of people respond. If you have forum friends, admin or not, let them know and we'll get a better picture as to how popular an idea is.

I will work on drumming up support for this then.... Thanks for the input.
And does the support need to be from different forums? I know that the Members of my forum are overwelmingly in favor of this...
